HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair returns next week
The largest fair of its kind in the world is set to return to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) next Tuesday, featuring about 30 events to connect industry players from across the globe and promote local creativity.
The five-day event contains multiple exhibitions, forums, conferences and networking events. On the first day, the Hong Kong International Watch Forum will gather industry elites to examine new trends and future industry developments, while the Asian Watch Conference, taking place on 5 September, will feature some big names in the industry, including Swiss watchmaking expert Elmar Mock, former engineer at Swatch, who will share insights on how to turn ideas into reality and Swatch’s design stories. The last day of the fair will be open to the public. Salon de TE will be available for visitors aged 12 or above for free, allowing them to enjoy a series of watch parades, “fashion x watches” parade, product launches, watch-collection sharing sessions and lucky draws. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council will also stage the international fashion event Centrestage concurrently from 5 until 8 September at the HKCEC to showcase fashion brands and designer collections, bringing more cross-over business opportunities to exhibitors.
Organised by HKTDC, the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and the Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades and Industries Ltd, the fair will be held from 4 September until 8 September, showcasing works from 830 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions with new exhibitors from Denmark, Poland, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. The organisers will join hands to hold the 35th Hong Kong Watch & Clock Competition. Divided into two categories, namely Open Group and Student Group, with the theme “Innovative Craftsman” and “Colourful World” respectively, the competition aims to raise the design standards of Hong Kong watch brands and nurture budding local designers. Winning and final entries will be displayed at the fair to showcase the best of Hong Kong’s creativity to international buyers.
“Hong Kong is one of the world’s major exporters of watches and clocks, with exports reaching HK$37.3 billion in the first seven months of 2018, up 2.5% over last year. Local watch and clock companies have been developing original design manufacturing (ODM) products and own brands with innovative designs and superb craftsmanship to stay competitive,” commented Benjamin Chau, deputy executive director of HKTDC.
